Background

Shantaba Vidyalaya started in 2005 as a day school for children from the local Halpati (landless tribal labourer) community. In 2007 the Trust opened a home called Vatsalyadham, because so many students came from broken families and needed socio-emotional support. In 2024-25 the Trust launched a dedicated girls' residential school, Roop Kunvarba Kanya Vidhyalay.

Today, 98% of students are from the tribal community, 40% are orphans or from single-parent homes, 60% are girls, and 94% live in Vatsalyadham. Students from preschool to STD 12 study under the Gujarat State Board. The schools receive no government grants, they run entirely on charity.

The three campuses

  • Shantaba Vidyalaya, for boys, capacity 300 students.
  • Roop Kunvarba Kanya Vidhyalay, for girls, capacity 550 students.
  • Gurukul, capacity 300 students.

How we educate

Level-based learning in elementary grades

Daily teaching is pitched at each student's actual learning level, with hostel teachers providing additional remedial support. A continuous assessment system tracks improvement across a variety of skills for every child.

Holistic exposure

Strong exposure to Arts (कला), Sports (खेल) and Hand-skills (कार्य अनुभव) for all-round development. Skill development includes organic farming, craft, tailoring, beautician work, cooking, electrical work and music. Gifted students are nurtured across academic and non-academic domains.

Professional coaching

Partnerships with expert agencies prepare students for NEET and JEE.

Value education & personality development

Students practise daily Anaapan and are exposed to Jivan Kala, Kabir's couplets, practitioner talks and the Magic Touch program.
